View from the Town Landing - 290 Megapixels!

This is a 290 megapixel (yes two hundred and ninety) panorama beginning with the Mattapoisett River outlet and panning eastward past Ned's Point Lighthouse. The view is from the old Mattapoisett Landing. The source of the image is 96 overlapping 12 megapixel images taken with a Nikon D90 equipped with a Nikkor 24-120 mm zoom (set at 48 mm). All 96 images were stitched together on dual core pentium processor which took over 4 hours to align and stitch. Manual exposure of f10 at 1/1000 sec and an ISO of 1000. The field of view is about 220 degrees wide by almost 50 degrees tall. I hope to make some significant improvements in resolution and depth in the future when I aquire a robotic panner. This image was using a handheld camera so there are some stitching artifacts that could not be resolved. Meanwhile this view should be quite explorable so be sure to zoom in and look around. A broadband connection is highly recommended.
