You may also hear casual conversations unrelated to the storm. At 8 PM nightly you will hear the local weather net here and probably discussion on the pending storm. The amateur radio activity may dominate the scanner during the early morning and late afternoon hours.
There are also several local Marine VHF-FM frequencies programmed where you may hear the fishing fleet heading back into safe harbor, rescues, and Coast Guard activities. Please use caution as some of the fishermen may use colorful language. All communications heard here is delayed about 30 seconds but is not editied. Listener discretion strongly advised!

As we headed out to see a movie she wanted to give it a try since he was conveniently located off Cranberry Highway on the way to the cinemas in Wareham. As we rolled up to the vacant lot we saw a white cargo van surrounded by a couple of barrel smokers, a hot dog cart and coolers....plus a man in a chef hat that was doing the work of three men. We soon discovered that this was more than just a roadside hot dog cart! You could order anything from an all-beef hot dog to a full rack of baby-back or Louisiana-style ribs. Both smokers were loaded with ribs and other goodies producing an aroma you could smell for miles around. As we were in line one gentleman in front of us was ordering a rack of ribs to pick up later in the day for dinner, but admitted that grabbing a sweet sausage dog to have for lunch was part of the plan....he seemed to be a regular customer. Since we were headed to a movie, we wanted to eat something simple and light so we decided on the two dog special. Two all-beef dogs, bag of chips and a can of soda...all for five bucks! Only fifteen minutes from Mattapoisett, we will be back to try his ribs and other delicacies. You'll also enjoy talking to the Chef.... inspirational and full of energy and enthusiasm. Lastly...one of the biggest testimonials was the constant line of cars pulling in and keeping the Chef busy. It is claimed to be of a donkey cart take on Water St. taken in 1908 during "Old Home Week". If anyone can confirm or recall if there was ever a "Shaws" market on Water St. or if you can identify the buildings? Are there are any descendants of Louise and Molly Cogswell out there? I have to agree with other stereo photo enthusiasts that this camera certainly brings a "WOW" factor to the hobby. Interest in stereo photography has seen ebbs and flows since Civil War times but I think that from this amateurs perspective, we see the potential for this hitting mainstream appeal.

This series of photos from the Fuji is right out of the box in full auto mode. Since I had only about 45 minutes of light left I headed down to our local lighthouse and waterfront areas for a few snapshots. I haven't read the user guide or made any attempts to familiarize myself with modes other than use it in fully automatic mode.

You'll need to have some basic knowledge of stereo photography to view these. If you have a 3D video game or DVD movie, and your glasses are red/cyan, choose the anaglyph link. If you are accustomed to parallel free-viewing, choose the parallel link. Here's a few tips on parallel free-viewing.

Many thanks to Cycloptical3D. The team of Ken Burgess and Tanya Alsip not only offers great customer service but they are stereo photos enthusiasts that contribute to the hobby and are highly recommended. They have incredibly fast and free shipping too.

This is the first time in 3D history where technology offers instant gratification without the delays and recurring costs of film technology. I look forward to digging a little deeper into the 3D W3's capabilities.

-TimTimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05848730194045945771noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8406312878457970088.post-47920080784636377182010-08-20T10:40:00.003-04:002010-08-20T10:46:26.673-04:00Wednesday Yacht RacesI went down to Ned's Point to take some photos of a friend in the Wednesday night races. State public health officials, working in conjunction with several other agencies and local public health partners, made the decision to conduct spraying following continued positive tests for eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) in mosquito samples from that part of the state, and have characterized the risk of EEE infection as a serious public health concern at this time.
"Our decision to begin aerial spraying against mosquitoes in the southeastern part of the state is a reflection of the real risk of EEE that we're facing this year," said Governor Patrick. "This is an important step in our fight against mosquito-borne illness, but it's not the only one. I urge residents across the state to take simple, common-sense steps to protect themselves from mosquitoes. These include using bug spray and covering up when outdoors, especially during peak mosquito hours of dusk to dawn."

Spraying of the pesticide will take place after dusk on August 4th in the communities of Acushnet, Berkley, Bridgewater, Carver, Duxbury, Dartmouth, East Bridgewater, Easton, Fairhaven, Freetown, Halifax, Hanson, Kingston, Lakeville, Marion, Mattapoisett, Middleboro, New Bedford, Norton, Pembroke, Plympton, Plymouth, Raynham, Rochester, Taunton, Wareham and West Bridgewater. These areas were chosen based on factors including mosquito sample surveillance findings, environmental observations and weather conditions among others.

The specific pesticide being used in the aerial spraying, the same product already used in ground spraying throughout these communities, is very low in concentration and has been proven safe for humans at these levels.

If spraying is delayed due to poor weather conditions, it will be rescheduled later in the week, and public notification processes will begin to inform affected communities.

There are several simple steps that residents in these areas should take in preparation for the aerial spraying:

Keep windows closed and fans off. Shut off air conditioners unless they have a setting for re-circulating indoor air.

Keep pets, livestock and other domestic animals indoors during spraying to minimize their risk of exposure.

Wash any homegrown fruits or vegetables before eating.

If skin or clothes or other items are exposed to the sprayed pesticide, wash with soap and warm water.

"We want to be sure that families and businesses in these areas are fully aware of the timing and location of aerial spraying in their communities," said Department of Public Health (DPH) Commissioner John Auerbach. "We encourage residents in each of these cities and towns to spread the word to their friends and neighbors."

"Mosquito-borne diseases threaten not only humans but also our domestic animal population," said Department of Agricultural Resources (DAR) Commissioner Scott Soares. "We suggest that animals be placed indoors or under shelter during the spraying event and that animal owners empty, clean and refill water containers with fresh water after the spraying event."

More information on EEE and the use of aerial spraying is available at www.mass.gov/dph.

Timhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05848730194045945771noreply@blogger.com0
